APRM Strengthens Partnership with Côte d’Ivoire in Preparation for the Second-Generation Country Review
Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire – 21–22 July 2026 – The APRM Continental Secretariat delegation, led by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Her Excellency Ambassador Marie-Antoinette Rose-Quatre, undertook an official mission to Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, from 20 to 24 July 2026 as part of preparations for the country's forthcoming Second Generation APRM Country Review. During the mission, the CEO held a series of high-level consultations with the Ivorian authorities and the APRM national structures.
On 21 July 2026, the APRM delegation met with members of the APRM National Commission, led by its Chairperson, Professor David Musa Soro. Discussions focused on preparations for the Second-Generation Country Review, namely the institutional arrangements required for a successful review process, and the mobilisation of all national stakeholders. The CEO commended Professor Soro for revitalising the National Commission by bringing together highly qualified professionals, including academics, researchers, and governance experts, thereby strengthening the institution's capacity to lead the review process.
On the morning of 22 July 2026, the delegation was received at the Senate of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire by H.E. Mr. Alcide Djédjé, Senator and Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Ivorians Abroad, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, and former APRM National Focal Point. The discussions underlined the critical role of Parliament in promoting democratic governance, overseeing governance reforms, and ensuring national ownership of the APRM process. Later in the evening, the CEO was received by H.E. Ms. Kaba Nialé, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Ivorians Abroad, and APRM National Focal Point. The meeting reaffirmed Côte d'Ivoire's commitment to the APRM and reviewed the next steps towards the official launch of the country's Second-Generation Country Review.
Ambassador Marie-Antoinette Rose-Quatre congratulated the Government of Côte d'Ivoire on the remarkable progress achieved since the 2011 crisis, particularly in the areas of political stability, economic transformation, institutional reform, and good governance. The CEO further noted that the country's four successive National Development Plans (NDPs), adopted since 2011, and especially the latest NDP, whose sixth pillar is dedicated to governance, demonstrate the Government's strong commitment to the principles of good governance.
The Government of Côte d'Ivoire and the APRM Continental Secretariat agreed to continue consultations towards the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which will formally launch the Second-Generation Country Review process. The APRM Continental Secretariat reaffirmed its readiness to provide Côte d'Ivoire with the necessary technical, institutional, and methodological support to ensure the successful conduct of its Second-Generation Country Review.
The mission was conducted in a spirit of dialogue, partnership, and mutual confidence, reflecting the shared commitment of the APRM and the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire to advancing good governance, sustainable development, and the aspirations of Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.
